I want Vista in English

OK, if you've got/get the Czech Ultimate version, you can change the display
language to English. By downloading it in Windows Update, and then
selecting it under 'Change display language'.

No, what makes no sense is your deliberately buying a laptop with a
Czech language license, and then changing your mind and expecting to be
given a free copy of Windows.

Its not a question of deliberately buying a laptop with one language version
and wanting a free copy in english. I have the same problem in China, where
most of the big (US) laptop manufacturers ONLY have Chinese version Vista. If
I want English, I have to buy another copy (having already paid as part of
the laptop cost for a completely useless (to me) Chinese version)! My
question is, once my english version arrives (it has to be ordered!) what
will happen when I try to install the english version? What will happen to
all the other pre-installed software on the laptop?

If you were asking for an English license to replace an already
purchased Czech OEM license, at no additional cost, then you actually
were, in affect, asking for a free license from Microsoft. Perhaps this
isn't your intent, but that's pretty much the way it works out.

Then all you have to do is purchase the laptop from a vendor who is
willing and able to meet your specific needs. Or purchase the laptop
without an operating system and separately purchase and install a retail
license in the language of your choice. (Which would probably cost more,
admittedly.)

Sorry, I misunderstood. Your original post made it sounds as if you had.

Have you looked at any of the many reputable on-line merchants, rather
than just the local bricks and mortar shops? You do have the whole
Internet at your disposal, after all.

After you've purchased it, certainly. Remember, when buying OEM, all
of your business is with the vendor, not Microsoft. You'll have
purchased that OEM license from the vendor, not Microsoft.

Since you've stated that you cannot get the OEM English license, I'll
assume that you're referring to retail licenses. Unfortunately, retail
pricing, even the wholesale prices offered to retailers for retail
licenses, have little to no relationship to the prices of OEM System
Builder packages sold to computer manufacturers; these are heavily
influenced by volume. Granted, in theory, the cost should be the same,
as the manufacturing processes are identical, but demand has an impact,
as well.

As you've made no purchase yet, I'd agree that to purchase two licenses
for one computer would be somewhat less than wise, shall we say. So
don't purchase the Czech OEM license; find a merchant who'll meet your
needs. I've always found that most merchants, when faced with the fact
that intransigence is about to lose them a sale, come around. Walking
out is a viable bargaining ploy.

It is really easy for you to say to deal with a friendly retailer or
reseller. I am living in a foreign country, with no reseller willing to
install English, and when I contacted Dell and other sellers they wanted over
$400 to ship a computer here with the English insatalled. Either way, I am
paying twice for the licence! In older version of Windows, we could download
different languages for free. This makes more sense because most people only
use one language (their primary language) for their interface, anyway. For
Microsoft to gouge us this way is typical of the company's mindset, but truly
unfair to the user. It was the last straw for me. I actually returned my
computer and bought a Mac instead. Apple was much more friendly, and I am
tired of MS treating all of its users as if all we do is try to steal from
the company!!!

I find it hard to believe that there is absolutely no one who will build you
a custom system. That is what you want. You are NOT going to get this from a
"normal" retail outlet.

The alternative is to build your own computer and install the version of
Vista that YOU want. My neighbors 11 year old grandson put together his
first computer about 3-4 weeks ago and is very happy with it. You can do the
same.
