Thanks Microsoft, but it's all Greek to me!!!

Two Windows updates failed - the reason for this happening was as follows:

'
SYMPTOMS
You are running a computer on which the Greek version of Windows Vista was
preinstalled by the manufacturer. However, you notice that certain elements
of the user interface are not displayed as expected. Specifically, certain
elements of the user interface contain English text, text that is truncated,
or linguistic errors.

Most preinstalled systems are not affected by this problem. To determine
whether you are experiencing these symptoms, follow these steps: 1. Click
Start , and then click Help and Support.
2. Under ΠληÏοφοÏίες από τη Microsoft, click ΕÏÏεση των αÏχείων και
των φακέλων σας.
3. In the upper-right corner, click Εμφάνιση όλων.
4. Under Για να φιλτÏάÏετε τα αÏχεία σας, view the text that is
displayed in the image.
The image contains the English words "Sort" and "Group." If these words are
displayed in Greek as "Ταξινόμηση" and "Ομαδοποίηση," you are not
experiencing this problem.
CAUSE

This problem occurs if the Greek version of Windows Vista that was
preinstalled on the computer contains an incorrect version of the translated
user interface. '

The second failure it appears is due to a preinstall of Czech!!!

Followed the suggestion above and went to Start etc., couldn't see any
Greek or Czech.

I just purchased a brand new notebook, is it possible....?

Wotcha Nutcase (that's hi in cockney!)

As far as I am concerned, there's no sign of a foreign language in my
setup - it's all very English. The only foreign lingo that appears is in
Windows response to the download failure SYMPTOMS.

The new notebook ( got it last Friday) has Vista Home installed - I
immediately upgraded to Premium.

Hi,

Control Panel/Regional and Language Options, Check the Format tab for
English, the Location tab for the proper country (I am presuming you are in
a country where the predominant language is English), and the Administrative
tab for the proper system locale.

She is calling from Guilford area, UK with ntl/virgin broadband. So that
covers whether or not she is in a country where English English is the
predominant language.
As to the 'cockney' bit, you know the language Dick Van Dyke tried to speak
in Mary Poppins - the jury is still out as to whether that is Enlglish or
not :) :)

Ooh clever clogs! You got the Virgin right, but I am in London - hence the
cockney ;-)

OT reply
Good to hear that - I am with ntl :-( and had hoped that things would
improve with Virgin taking over - but alas so far no - the barstewards even
introduced a premium rate tel number for BB support.
Have you solved your language problem?
