I want to know how to disable ALL autoformatting. All of it.

I want a blank Word doc that makes NO assumptions. If I hit "space" I get a
space. If I want to create a bulleted list that follows no format, I want
only what keys I hit to do exactly as I tell them, no assumptions. I have a
numbered list with URLS after each number and Word is insistent that the URL
on one of them drops down to another line instead of just continuing the
stupied letters onto the next line. It's infuriating and I want it to do ONLY
what I type. If I hit space, I want a space, no stupid questions asked. Blind
obedience is what I want from this program. NO AUTOFORMATTING!!

Assuming you don't use Word 2007 yet:
Tools > AutoCorrect options...
Look at the two tabs for "AutoFormat as you type..." and "AutoCorrect" and
uncheck all the options.

I've kept them all disabled for a long time, and am much happier since.
I know how to type, and prefer to make my own typos and formatting mistakes
instead of having Word mess with my mind, thank you very much <g>

I am quite grateful for some AutoFormat As You Type options (such as "smart
quotes"), but I do keep most of them disabled.
