I Tunes convertin .wma files

Has anyone figured out how to convert purchased music from Kazaa into an I
Tunes format? I can't believe that Microsoft forces everyone to use Media
Player when all we want is to be able to download our purchased music in our
I Pods. Will they ever leave us alone?

Do some research before you get into conspiracy theory mode. Can't quite
figure out what your MS angle is on transferring files between Kazaa and
iTunes.

Apple has a proprietary format that they don't license to other vendors
(notably including Microsoft). WMP allows you to use MP3, WMA (which
*is* licensable) and other formats.

There is an iPod plugin for WMP, and 15 seconds on Google would also
show you how to convert files between formats.

The easiest way to make music files that are burnable compatible with all
players is as follows. Burn a music CD (cda). Rip the CD to any format you
want. All security will be gone.

Hey Mike,

It's not a conspiracy theory, it's just a lot of frustration with MS. I've
got hundreds of CDs that I made with another O/S. When I rebuilt my system I
could no longer play any of my CDs because MS said I didn't have the
"Rights". I've recently learned that I can pay $30.00 to acquire software
from MS that will allow me to play my old CDs. Now I use Audigy2zx Pro along
with I Tunes. I purchased five songs from Kazaa, downloaded them, and
attempted to transfer them to I Tunes, which converts the formats for
downloading in an I Pod. I Tunes converts wma but whenever I try to move
these files I get a popup that says that the song is in a protected wma
format and cannot be converted. So, there it is - lots of frustrations, over
the years, with MS licensing policies makes them my least favorite, at the
moment.

Sounds like you didn't back up licenses. That's not MS' fault. It's the
way the whole online music business works. The online vendors wouldn't
use WMA if there were no protection against copying. Ditto with Apple's
music store.

That has nothing to do with WMA per se. No one will allow you to convert
a DRM protected file. You'd get the same error trying to convert one of
Apple's protected files too. All you can do with a protected file is
burn an audio CD and re-rip to an unprotected state.

I'm having a similar problem....trying to convert the music I purchased from
iTunes and be able to play them in my WMP 10. I am pretty much a novice at
this stuff so my question for Dennis (or anyone else out there) is how do I
rip them to another format and which is the best format to use for WMP?

Thanks in advance

Joe

Your question has been answered twice already in this thread.
