I tried to take ownership

As a test for ownership I tried to take the advice of Pegasus and as the user
Borge, I went to have a look at drive E: which is the first partition on the
second disk.

Normally when working with photos I work as the Administrator. I nearly took a
fit when I was informed that I did not have access to the folder and properties
showed just 0 content. I do have files from 3 cameras amounting in total to
probably 2000 pictures. Therefore a catastrophe was envisaged.
Using Users and passwords in Settings/Control Panel, I verify that Borge is a
Power User.

I changed to Administrator and the files were there. I have learnt something
about not working as administrator unless absolutely necessary - so how do I
manage to see the folder on E: , PLEASE

Very simple: you log on as administrator, then you allow Borge to
access the folders with your pictures. The process is described in
detail in the Windows Help pages - just type in "Permission", then
go for "File Permissions" and for "Folder Permissions".

Your remark about nearly having a fit makes me wonder about
your backup process. I suspect there isn't one. Yet you can buy
a large hard disk in a USB case for very little money and use it
to back up all of your important files every week, then store it
in a safe place away from your PC.

moment I still cannot quite clear the trojan downloader which shows on my AVG
from time to time. I keep trying to locate and kill it and look at history to
find out what I have done to deserve the trouble.
I do have a C and a D backup from before the trouble but using those is just as
bad as giving up. For me to keep abreast of things, I need to find the trouble
and put it right. The virus vault is empty now as I have just cleared it a
couple of hours ago, but I do get some trouble practically every day. The
message in the vault where they go automatically is just Trojan horse downloader
followed by 5-6 numerals with a .exe hung on the end. I have managed to get one
of them isolated on a floppie but as my wife has suffered a stroke and I have
hospital visits to attend to, I have not had the time to use a disassembler to
see what I can make of it - some day I shall get at it.

I don't believe in free virus scanners. I pay my dues, and neither I nor
any of my numerous clients (who use the same scanner) have ever
suffered any infections. One of them scores more than 100 infected
EMails each day. They are all intercepted before they even get to
the workstations.

I am probably stupid to think that AVG does keep the virus off my computer as
long as it will automatically places the offending file in the Virus Vault.
Surely the computer must look at the program and determine if there is a virus
connected with it. Then in my case which is the first of a simple home system
containing my computer and one for my wife the AVG is doing its job or is it
not?

When you are coming towards the end of existence in this life, you may find more
difficult economic times when you live longer than you calculated, which lead
you to save for the time when you are put away. Remember there are lot of sharks
out here and probably in Wales also who are only too keen to pre-sell funerals
at grossly inflated prices. Here we have to suffer them as adverts in amongst
bits of the Bill. Makes for a cheerful night
