I thought the protection for a private folder

Hello everyone!

After many many mistakes (apparently not enough) I kept all my data folders
on a separate drive letter on my system.
I just completed a full format on my C: drive.
Before starting the formatting, I took care of removing my user account
password, thinking that this would automatically remove any protection to my
files safely stored in D:
Surprise! My folder is now locked.
:-(
I'm sooooo worried that I will not have any access to ALL My files! ;-(

Can anybody help?

Hey thanks for your quick reply, I thought I would have to wait for days...

I did some searching, but simple file sharing can only be disabled on WIN XP
PRO.

(gosh) I have xp home...

anything I can do?

I've read posts regarding WinXP Home that you have to reboot into Safe
Mode to login under the Administrator account. Maybe you have to do
that, too, to take ownership.

You can get a bootable linux cd (do a search on google), boot your pc from
the cd as a linux machine, then you can get into any drives, and copy the
files to somewhere that's not protected.

This has worked for me in the past

Go to Help and support and search on "Take Ownership" to find how to get
ownership restored

I did the search on help and support but it seems that only appears on
windows XPPRO

I found the solution (as Neil on the previous post suggested).

I think you missed this line near the top of the article:
"If you are running Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition, you must start the
computer in safe mode, and then log on with an account that has
Administrative rights to have access to the Security tab."
