I purchased a computer recently at a pawn shop. The pc came with WindowsXP
home edition installed, but came with no recovery software or even a copy of
windows. Now my computer is on the fritz and all I want to do is format the
dirve and reinstall windows, but I am unable to since I cannot afford a whole
new copy of windows on my meager wages. Is there any hope for me?

If you have a valid licence sticker it is perfectly alright to borrow a
copy of XP from a friend.

Otherwise, the Linux community is growing, and there are several user
friendly distributions.

I have a Medion. Would the sticker perhaps be the shiny one on the back of
my computer that says product key?

That would be the one. Check the Medion web site for support faqs on the
make and model for restore options.
