I think i did something bad...

Last night I was installing SP1 for XP and after it had
finished downloading and installing but before I
rebooted, I did a search a on my C: drive for *.tmp and
deleted the results. Then when I went to reboot the
computer will display the windows home edition screen
with the status bar, but then it automatically recycles
the power and starts over. The pc stays in this loop.
If I try safe mode, it runs through some files in the
system32 directory until it gets to mup.sys, then the
same cycle repeats. I have also tried going back to my
last good configuration, but the same thing happens. Is
there anything I can do?

Thanks for the suggestion - unfortunately it was not my
computer and the owner did not bring the cd drive, so it
will be a few days before we can get it fixed.

You mean that Raj doesn't read English so *well*. :) I also suspect you
meant to type "think" and not "thing". :)

One should not use an adjective to modify a verb. We have adverbs for that
function in the English language.

Try a repair install. You will need to reapply SP1, but then why
bother. SP2 is out now. Skip SP1 and install SP2. It's available for
download as the network install of 266 MB. If you are not on broadband,
then wait till 8/16 and get the express install from the windows update
site. That will be about 80-120 MB, or you can order it on CD starting
on 8/25 or there abouts. And next time don't be messing around when
doing installations. Let it complete first, run the system a bit to see
that everything is working ok, then worry about clean up.

Try putting in the Windows XP install CD and running a
repair install. Good luck.

One more question - on my computer when I power on i can
hit f12 which takes me to a menu where i can specify the
boot drive. On the Sony Vaio, what key does the same
thing? Right now when the pc is powered on, it show a
sony logo on the screen, then goes to the windows logo.
