We have received a "good will" security update for
Internet Explorer.

This does not mean that Internet Explorer will be patched
every time there is a problem.

You don't say how you "receive" them or what they are, so it's not
possible to say.

If you can verify that they really come from Microsoft Update, then
they are legitimate.

Microsoft will be sending updates
For there Software's

The Software "OS" with
The Name Windows XP
Well not get update

For Internet 8 get update's
But you will not get a upgrade to 9

For all new Microsoft Software's
Well not get upgrade on XP
Or
Windows 9x's

If you have the yellow shield with the vertical line or excalmation mark
inside, double click on it, BE SURE to check Custom Install, click on
Next, and then in the top panel you can see what they sent you. You can
always uncheck it or cancel if you want to, but you'll still have the
yellow shield.
Viruses ?

Please educate yourself on malware and their methods of distribution.

Microsoft pused out a critical security update for Internet Explorer.
Nothing more, nothing less.

Since the end of support, I've gotten 3 anit-virus definition updates
that are meant to be used by MS Windows Defender, I think it's called.
It shows a castle parapet as its icon.

Interesting because I never got them before, and I don't have Windows
Defender installed. Maybe it's their way of saying I could still use
it, but i thought I read it would stop working in 3 or 4 months.

MSE - Microsoft Security Essentials. Their AV software; some say it's
good, some not.

(I'm not sure if it autoinstalled itself towards the end.) Definition
file updates for MSE will continue to be updated until at least 2015 -
the only part of XP that will. (If you do the POS hack, you'll get
updates for other parts of the system; whether one of these will
eventually break non-POS, who knows?)
