I still can't remove the number 1 from new documents.

I've tried everything to remove the number 1 from my new documents. It is
NOT the show/hide symbol that Suzanne suggested. I tried everything that was
suggested in finding the Normal.dot file, and that didn't work either.
Please offer more suggestions

The Normal.dot template will be located in the following folder



c:\documents and settings\[user name]\application data\microsoft\templates

By default, the folder is hidden so a normal search would not find it.

To display hidden folders, select Options from the Tools menu in Windows
Explorer and select the View tab and check the radio button for "Show hidden
files and folders"
