I shouldn't have to open read receipts to generate tracking tabs

I don't open my emails, ever. I view everything from the preview pane and
have my preferences set to mark items as read from the preview pane. Why
doesn't this create tracking tabs? Why should I have to open READ RECEIPTS,
possibly HUNDREDS of them over days and weeks at a time, in order to properly
track who has read a message sent to large groups of people? Is there a
patch for this? I'm certain this was not set up like this in Outlook 2000.

Does for me.

You don't.

No patch needed because it's not broken.

Any idea of possible problems? I have left all my settings the same to test
this. Changing nothing else, when I open the read receipts, I get tracking
tabs on those sent items. When I do not open them and instead read them in
preview pane (making sure they are marked as read) no tracking tab ever
appears in that sent item.
