Is the next paragraph in the same style as the previous one? For example, if
you set tabs in one of the built-in heading styles, the "Style for following
paragraph" for all those styles is Normal, so you would not see the tab
stops you set for the heading style.

If you use format > tab to configure the tab settings, that setting applies
to the current paragraph. Modify the tab settings associated with the
current style definition if you want all the paragraphs in that style to
adopt the same tab settings.
