Word 2007 - changing all tabs in a document

[word tab question]

I need to change all of the tabs in a 400 page document. I need to change
them to .3 - I think they are all .5 now.


If I select all, format paragraph, tabs, enter .3" as the tab stop position
and click set... my tabs do not get reset.

If I go to tabs and change my default tab stop to .3" (it says .5) and say
ok and then select all and clear all tab stops they don't all get set to .3.

I thought I could do a find and replace by going to find-format-tabs
entering .5 clicking set and ok... but it doesn't find any. Nor does it find
any at .3.

When I click the show/hide formatting button, it shows nothing where I have
put tabs in my document. I can even go to the start of a paragraph, hit
backspace to remove the tab and hit the tab button... no symbols appear
showing a tab is there.

Can someone lend me a hand... this is a 400 page document! I cannot go and
change every paragraph individually - I need a programmatic solution...

Are you sure that you really added tab characters? By default, pressing Tab
at the beginning of a paragraph would apply a first line indent (assuming
that "Set left and first indent with tabs and backspaces" is selected in the
AutoCorrect Options dialog box, AutoFormat As You Type tab). You should be
able to verify this on the horizontal ruler (look at the indent indicators).

You can use the Find and Replace dialog box (Ctrl+H) to find and replace
first line indents. Click the More button to see all options, and then use
Format, Paragraph.
