that has generated the error 0x8007064c: " The installation source for this
product is not available. Verify the source exists and that you can access
it." when I try to update? I've done several new installs to no avail.
Every time I try to update Defender, via the program or MS updates, I get the
same error. Updates for other MS products are working fine. Is Beta 1
available anywhere? I could install it again!

No--I don't think removing the antispyware folder relates to this error
message.

OTOH, I don't immediately know what to do about it either!

OldRebel has given the 915105 reference--that's the first thing to try, but
I think you'll get the same error.

Next thing to try is the Windows Installer Cleanup tool:

http://support.microsoft.com/?scid=kb;en-us;290301

Download and install, then run the app from start, all programs. Look down
the list for Windows Defender signatures, and remove those.

Then retry updating.

Just out of curiosity, I tried that link to filehippo -- I could not get
that page with IE or with the AOL browser. Is it gone? I don't need it
myself, but others might.

Once again, thank you everyone. WD was not listed in the cleanup tool and
indeed I've tried the fixes for the other update problems. I thought I'd
post here, get a little more exposure. Weekend after next I'll be board
while my wife is at work so Ill try the install again. The most frustrating
part of this is the fact that Beta1 worked so flawlessly for me.
