I need urgent Help

Hi All,
I have 7 computers ( all running win2k ) on LAN. With Win2K
machine as the Server. One of the computers, say #X couldn't start
properly. But we got it online after some time. But then #X was not
able to browse the network. The services "Computer Browser", "server"
and "workstation" were not present in the services list, so had to set
it up in the registry.
Now the problem is #X can browse the network and other computers (only
their IP addrs not Names). But the Other computers cannot access #X.

Have checked the Domain Name, subnet mask and all seem to be
right compared to other computers..

Plz help me, and thanks for all the advice in advance

I would suspect that this is related to the "couldn't start properly" issue,
whatever that was. You could try uninstalling the network card, shutting
down the PC and removing the card, booting without the card in place, then
shutting down and reinstalling the card, finally restarting Windows and
letting it reinstall the drivers but if the issue is corrupted software on
the hard drive and/or a physical problem with the PC that probably won't
help. In that case a repair install or wipe and reinstall is possibly the
only cure once the "couldn't start properly" issue is addressed.

actually the CMOS battery is not working, so the "couldn't start" is
related to that... so the system actually hangs at the Login screen...
so everytime I boot the system I have to Load Optimal Settings from the
CMOS settings and the system boots properly...
Actually we booted the machine without the NIC card and let the
System install the drivers for it everthings okay.
In fact, all the machines on the network can ping this machine #X,
and #X can access all the machines by their IP addresses but the others
machines cannot access #X by Name or IP address..

Is there a firewall on machine "X", and if so have you tried uninstalling
it?

Ok now I have the machine on the Network... but I'm unable to browse
the Internet....
ne suggestions

I can access all my networked pcs from #X but when I try to access #x
from other computers it says "Access Denied"...
And also I don't get Internet on #X...

Well why not start by changing the battery. Deal with all hardware issues
before software.

yeah replaced the battery...
It solved the problem. The machine could access the network and also
the others machines could. But #X couldn't get the Internet..
Found out that winsock entry in registry was corrupted. repaired it.
and now the machine works just fine..
