Help Help I am facing blackmail I need to exchange with a ms tech and not a
form letter

I have someone who has hacked into one of my other ids, a hotmail account
that is central to my academic work./ Twice this person has stolen the
password signed in and changed all the identifying information and bared me
from the account. They have sent emails to people all over the world saying
that I needed money. Several persons actually sent money. MS fixed it, but
then the person returned control of it in a few hours. They have written me
that they will continue this if I do not send them five hundred dollars.
Now I have been trying to talk to someone from microsoft about this for a day
or so, but there seems to be no way to do this. I am scared an important
work for me and others is paralyzed. I need to talk directly to someone, not
fill out the same form over and over. I am facing a crime here.
I cannot be reached by email to Blackbanjotony@hotmail because this phister
has control over it. I can be reached via my messenger at
(e-mail address removed) or
at (e-mail address removed).

Contact the Police! No 'if's Ands or But' if you are a victim of a crime it
is your duty to report it to the relevant authorities.

As for Microsoft there should be a customer service number available for
your area, assuming Microsoft have an office in your country. Contact
Customer service and give them the details.

On security questions it's best to use a "Jumble", not a true answer.
If you do that, just make sure you have it fully documented.

It is likely that the hacker lives outside the USA. If so then there is
little point in reporting him/her to the authorities. I suggest you do two
things:
- Get an expert to check out your Windows installation. It's probably
hacked. Alternatively, back up all your data, then re-install Windows onto a
freshly formatted disk. Remember to activate the firewall and install a good
virus scanner.
- When it's cleaned up, create a new Hotmail account for yourself, with a
good, strong password.

You need to talk to HotMail tech support and abuse
departments if this is a paid for account. If
it's a freebie just abandon it and get another one
if you can and ignore the idiot hacker; this type
of extortion is not new.
Send the abuse department the orginal email
using "Send As Attachment" in the right click
context menu so that the full headers go with it.
Here are some links that may help:
http://hotmail.msn.com/cgi-bin/dasp/ua_info.asp

http://help.uk.msn.com/safetyandsecurity/protect/article.aspx?cp-documentid=4165466

http://www.eggheadcafe.com/software/aspnet/31228329/hotmail-spam-can-now-resi.aspx

DO NOT UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES respond to the
threat in any way!! That will simply verify that
you have read the mail and that the hack was
successfully described to you. There may already
be invisible gifs in the mail that reported back
that you read the mail, but don't help them in any
way by clicking anything.

Print out the full email, with complete headers,
and report it to:
0. Hotmail via the web.
1. Your local authorities. They aren't likely to
do anything about it, but you will have done due
diligence that way if they ever catch the creep.
2. Submit the mail to your state attorney
general's office. They WILL be interested in it.
3. Send a copy to (e-mail address removed). You will not
hear back from them; it's a database.
4. Save a hard copy somewhere for your own
records. Do not depend on your computer to keep
this permanently. Things happen.

If you want to visit the server news.spamcop.net
and subscribe to the .spamcop newsgroup, people
there will have some ideas on how to handle it
that may likely be akin to mine, but may also have
something more effective.

You are not in any danger and if you contact the
maintainers of your hotmail accounts they can
easily enough change your password for you and
then you can go set your own again. Go right to
the support area or whichever one you got the
email from and ask there for this help.

This is not new. In fact, it's old and seems to
be dying off so let's hope it's some college kiddy
who might be caught easily. IFF he's serious he's
going to have to give away his identity at least a
pickup point for the money; most likely a money
gram. If any gvt cares enough, they could be
standing there waiting for him or if he uses an
electronic transfer he'll be idntified there, too.
Most likely though, it's a baseless threat, IMO.
I've only known two others to have received
anything like that but nothing ever came of it
once they changed their passwords.
Make it a very strong password: letters,
numbers, then letters. You're the only one ever
has to use it, so it won't bother anyone else.
Write it down if you have to & keep it in your
wallet or somehow on your person at all times
unless you have a safe to lock it up in.

IANAL or anything official; just another user like
you with perhaps a little more experience as a
spamfighter these last several years and these are
only my own opinons.

Actually, that's a pretty good idea; never thought

So how is this goblin getting your new account or new password?

I'd suspect he's got a trojan installed on your machine that sends him the
new information. No matter WHAT you do with Microsoft, it's just a minute or
two before the gremlin has your number.

If so, then your first priority should be to scrub your computer of any
malware.

Your Friend.

You have replies in two other groups wherein you posted this identical
message. In the future, please don't multipost - if you need to post to
multiple groups, it's best to crosspost instead, by posting a single message
to a handful of relevant groups (separate the NG names with commas) so that
everyone can follow the thread. Multiposting wastes everyone's time,
including yours, and may lead to your actually getting *less* help rather
than more.
