I have a gateway computer fpd1750 and my monitor is lcd 17inch
Max Resolution 1280 x 1024 / 75 Hz
Max Sync Rate (V x H) 75 Hz x 79.98 kHz
Dot Pitch 0.264 mm
Response Time 12 ms
Brightness 250 cd/m2
Contrast Ratio 450:1
Max Vertical View Angle 120
Max Horizontal View Angle 140

Problem is im horrid at computer info so if you can help me please put it in
a way a confused person will understand. Ok i changed my computer resolution
to 1280x720 up to1280x1024, when i did this the sides of my screen each have
1 gray strip in it and when i choose my normal display which is really low
everything is o.k. I need my resolution to 720 minumum for my new game system
im hooking up to it. When i changed the resolution all my videos had the gray
stripes into black so it matched well. On Internet pages and everything else
its to far over the right so i cant hit the exit button i can only go through
file>exit. So any1 know what this problem is and any things that might help
me? Thnaks guys i hope you help me

You need to change the monitor refresh rate (the advanced button, monitor
tab of the place where you changed the resolution) and/or adjust the screen
using the on-screen menu system or whatever method your monitor has (get out
the manual.) Just like a TV, you may have to adjust the picture with
vertical size and centering as well as horizontal to get things right -
whichgh would be a function of the refresh rate and the monitor adjustments.

Firstly, for best quality, LCD screens should be set to run at their so
called "native resolution". Forget "max resolution" if you want good
definition. Check out your monitor's documentation to determine what
this "native resolution" is.

Contrary to Shenan's comments, I don't see where Refresh Rate comes
into the picture and I believe it has no significance with respect to
your problem. Forgive me if I'm wrong.

If, in spite of lower image quality, you insist on running at anything
other than the Native Resolution and you have the bars on the side,
then I agree with Shenan that you probably need to use the monitor's
hardware controls to resize and/or reposition the image on the monitor.
For that matter, I've found that I sometimes need to do this to some
extent even when running at the Native Resolution.

While the maximum resolution in 1280 x 1024, the optimum setting for your
monitor will be 1024 x 768.. pushing the limit past the optimum requires
that you use the monitor's own controls to 'fill' the screen.. your system,
as with all others, will be subject to a performance hit running at the
maximum resolution..

Care must be used when setting refresh rates for LCD monitors.. they are
less tolerant of high refresh rates than their CRT counterparts.. it is
probably best to leave the refresh rate at the 'default' setting..

....i don't understand about "gray strip". Please capture the screen if you
can.

However the monitor offers screen resolution, the best resolution for the
monitor is usually 1024x768 at 75Hz. Now, whether it's LCD or not, YOU will
have trouble seeing stuff on monitor at higher resolution or maximum
resolution if the monitor is not big enough.

If you mean Widescreen-monitor, you should consult with the monitor company.
i have no idea about the best resolution for Widescreen monitors.

If you mean flat-panel-screen monitor, most monitors are designed to show
less performance. This applies the monitor position setting, stability for
all types of resolution signal from any kind of programs, etc. Some
flat-panel-screen monitors can't display 640x480 resolution correctly.

Please note that as long as you are able to remain "OK", please stay there.
Further "investigation" only wastes time which is hard to make it as "i spend
all the time to find a way to...".

i also don't understand about "resolution to 720 minimum for the game...". i
don't know what game you play, but if it says "Resolution 720 minimum", you
should quit the game. Unless it's full-screen game, it MIGHT cause problem
relates to "720 minimum".

MOST monitors are designed for ratio 4:3. Now most widescreen-monitors are
16:9 ratio. Anyway, check your resolution if it's 4:3 as in perfect balance.
To see if it's perfect balance, divide HORIZONTAL size by 4 then multiply it
by 3. If the result is exactly as the VERTICAL size of your screen, it's the
perfect balance for 4:3 ratio.

The basic perfect 4:3 ratios are below:
640*480
800*600
1024*768
1152*864
1280*960
1600*1200

For your case, the perfect 4:3 ratio would be 1280*960. Try this resolution.
