I Lost my Desktop.....Help!!

P

Pooh

I have no Desktop anymore. After booting up the process ends after the
background (Autumn) gets displayed. I have no Start Menu Bar, no icons on the
desktop. I can start some programs by using the Taskmanager (Ctrl + Alt +
Del) but I cannot start Windows explorer or any program that uses explorer to
start. Even when I browse to explorer.exe, I get a message saying
explorer.exe cannot be found. Can anyone help?

Thanks

Can you boot into Safe Mode and do a System Restore from there to just
before the problem, I don't know if that will help.

First, make sure the machine is malware and virus free by going through
these cleaning steps.
Unexplained computer behaviour may be caused by deceptive software

Go through these Cleaning steps:
1... First, try to clean up your caches, Internet files and delete cookies
by doing this:
Click Start >> Control Panel >> Double click Network and Internet
Connections >> Double click Internet Options.
On the IE properties windows you will see these Tabs:
General | Security | Privacy | Content | Connections | Programs |
Advanced
Under General Tab clear your History, Internet Files and Cookies.
Then click on Advanced tab and scroll down to under the Browsing Option:
[&] Browsing
[ ] Enable Third-Party browser extensions (Req Rest) uncheck this box.
Then click on Programs Tab and click Manage Add-Ons and Disable all non
Verified Add-Ons (You should Renable them later one-by-one and see the
culprit and update it or remove it.
How to manage Add-Ons:

2.... And also for malware from here:
SuperAntispyware - Free

http://onecare.live.com/site/en-gb/default.htm?s_cid=sah
http://onecare.live.com/standard/en-gb/default.htm

Right click on your Desktop and select properties. On the Display Properties
click on Dektop Tab then click on Customize Desktop button then click on Web
Tab and make sure nothing checked there, click OK and close the window and
Hit F5 to refresh, does it help?

Download Taskbar Plus repair tool from here

Reboot your machine and see if that will help.
HTH.
