I keep receiving this message

I'm trying to copy picture files to a cd and I keep
receiving this message.

The application failed to initialize properly (Oxc0000142).
Click OK to terminate the application.

I had Windows XP installed and now I can't complete my
projects concerning this.

I would appreciate any advice!

Are you using the default XP burning software or a third
party program such as EZCD Creator or Nero?

Have you tried the F1 key or the help menu?
