Mgr802x.exe - application error message

Hello there. Please help. I posted the following question yesterday morning
but I think nobody saw it. I will really appreciate if anyone out there can
help me with this.

I finished updating windows XP professional on my
new Panasonic Laptop hard drive. Created a User Account for the Administrator
and for a Guest. When I logon as a Guest, I get the following error message
--

Mgr802x.exe - application error message
The application failed to initialize properly (Oxc0000142). Click ok to
terminate application.

I do not get this message when I logon as the administrator. What is this
application and what to do to get rid of this problem? Thanks a lot in
advance.

Don't put a line in your posts - many newsreaders will interpret it as a
signature delimiter and delete it in replies. Here's the rest of your
post:

"Mgr802x.exe - application error message

terminate application.

As for what the program is, a Google doesn't bring anything up. You need
to start Task Manager and see what is running. You can also use
msconfig to see what is running at startup. My guess is that it is some
Panasonic wireless connectivity software, but you can also find that
file on your hard drive. The folder it is in may give a clue, and you
can also right-click it and then choose "Properties" to see if the
mftr. is listed on the Version tab.

If you are talking about using the Guest account (and not just another
user account you created), don't use Guest. The Guest account isn't for
when you are feeling hospitable; it is an extremely limited account
that isn't meant for everyday use. Instead, make an account for
"friends" or whatever. Then see if the program works.

Thank you Malke. I will try your suggestions. By the way, I did not put any
line in my post. I suppose you mean a three or four dash line above my
initials. The windows put it there itself. I am not very familiar with the
posting conventions. But I will now watch for it.

As to the guest account. I created it only if someone I need to temporarily
use my computer so they don't have full access to my files. But I guess you
are suggesting that it is better to create a user profile under another name
such as "Friends" without password protection and that will be better than
using "Guest." If so, I assume the person using the "Friends" account will
also not have access to my personal folders.

I will let you know how it went after I try your suggestions.

Thanks.

Of course you can have a signature; what I meant was that part of your
post was below a line which my newsreader interpreted as a signature
line. It's better to keep the body of the post in one place and use
paragraphs and whitespace between the paragraphs to break up the text
so as to keep it readable.

The main point was that whatever software is having the problem with
only running under Administrator needs to be examined. If it is
software from Panasonic as I suspected, then the best thing to do is
check with them about it. It is common for older software that was
designed for Win9x/ME systems to not understand NT-operating systems
permissions. However, if this is a newish laptop, one would think that
any OEM software would work properly with XP since it would have come
preinstalled. Rather than playing about with your user accounts, I'd
start troubleshooting the offending software first. Try using the
Windows wireless manager instead and see if that fixes things.

Thanks Malke. Here is the latest, just in case you are curious.

I created a visitor account and turned off the Guest account. Visitor
account does not receive this message. So I figured, no big deal, might as
well work with Visitor account since it serves the same purpose and to hell
with Panasonic. It is a brand new laptop but Panasonic says they can't help
with this "software" issue, just Google it, and Google didn't have anything.

When I am logged on as the administrator, I can see this program running
under the running processes, but I can't find any file on the computer with
that name (even under hidden/system files.) SO it is a mystery. We will leave
it at that since your alternate solution works.

Thanks a zillion.

Glad you got it sorted. Thanks for taking the time to let me know.
