I got a new computer with XP a few months ago. When I
open Windows Explorer or any file dialog box it always
goes to My Documents. When I transferred everything from
my old computer I put it in "my files" on the C Drive.
so everytime I go to open a file I have to go through 3
or 4 steps to get to "my files". Is there anyway to
change Windows always bringing my to that same point?

Thank you!
..

Right click on the "My Documents" icon and change the Target path to point
to C:/my files or whatever the path is for the folder you want to open

See if that helps

Solution 1 - just use the my documents folder. Why fight what xp already
gives you?
or
Solution 2 - create a shortcut to point to your my files folder. Point it to
here:
C:\WINDOWS\explorer.exe /e,C:\myfiles

THANK YOU. I have had XP for about 7 weeks, upgrade from 98. Using the Windows
Explorer shortcut and going through about 4 steps to get to C: was driving me crazy.
Having many ways to open My Documents is ridiculous, in my opinion.
With your advice, I created a shortcut to point to: C:\WINDOWS\explorer.exe
/e,C:\
Works like a champ.
Again thanks for the tip.

Or use TweakXP to point to a different folder instead of
'doc&settings/user/mydocs'

Or right click on "My documents" and change the target.

But I'd still want to move my documents out of C:\

Sorry I missed the OP. Create a shortcut on the desktop with the following
statement in the Target box:
%windir%\explorer.exe /e, C:\My Files (or the correct name for the folder if
there's a space, etc.) Note: the comma after /e is required. This shortcut
will open C: in your desired folder with the files displayed in the right
pane.
