I have a laptop and run it through a regular keyboard,
mouse and monitor. Everything was fine before I upgraded,
but now I'm just getting a message on my monitor that
video mode is not supported. Is there something in my
configuration I have to change? Thanks for any help you
can give me.

You need the proprietary drivers for it. XP does not have
them. Go to your manufacturers site. Or you have to
reinstall what you had and just do a upgrade in place.

Boot to safe mode, F8 when windows boots, and make sure
that your resolution is not higher than 1024X768.
It may also be a driver issue. Go to the Website of your
laptop manufacturer and download/install the correct XP
video driver for your chip.
