I just got XP and now no sound

I thought my PC had soundmax now I have no sound except for the occasional ding when I get mail..Anybody got a fix. I think I am missing a dvr..I went from Win 2000-XP..HELP I need music..Anything free I can do..
 
You need to install your soundcard or onboard sound chip drivers.

First stop should be the website of the PC manufacturer if you do not know
the type of sound hardware you have.
