When I bought my pc it came with no installation disk. Its a packard bell
bought from a reputable high st store. However I want to create a back up
disk and need the installation cd to install the back up utility. How can I
do this when windows xp was already installed?????

Hi

You'll have to either contact your supplier and see if they can provide you
with one or purchase a copy of the XP CD.

Do a search for Ntbackup.msi
You'll find it. However I don't think the windows backup program will back
up to a CD or DVD.

yeh, you should goto the packard bell site and do some research
on your pc model. But it is likely that all your installation files
are on your harddrive, probably in a hidden partition. Since
drive space is becoming real cheap for large amounts, many
makers will utilize the convenience of that available harddrive
space. You can tell something about your harddrive if you
see a \I386 folder...

In regards to the backup, I suggest you research disk imaging or
replication methods. Backuping up your whole system into
one backup file is sometimes unreliable and won't be discovered
until you need it.

And ALWAYS check your restore points, maybe weekly to
ensure the restore system is funtioning. This
is one of the ways windows can help you with it....

Interestingly, I have an i386 folder but I definitely do NOT have a hidden
partition.......
