Previously I just clicked on a page in "Control N" and the new page appesred
as a new file and automatically appeared in Nav view. Can someone please
advise?

Go to the HELP file to get started or buy a good book. Look for tutorials
with a Google search.
ETC

File > New and then select what you want to do in the right hand panel.

Thanks I know how to create the new page but how do I get it to appear in Nav
view as part of the web tree?

Either by dragging it to nav view after creating it (per above)
or switching to nav view selecting a page and right clicking to select New page
