I have issues with .net framework 1.1

I cannot reinstall or unistall .net framework 1.1 on a Win XP Pro SP2 box.

The install and also the uninstall looks for a msi in a temp directory that
has been deleted long ago.

Is there a way to force an installation without looking at old installs?
