I have an electronic file for a 200 page book that is in word perfect 4.2. Is
there any way to convert that to a Microsoft Word document and keep the
formatting?

Have you tried opening it in Word?

Download the WordPerfect filter from
http://www.gmayor.com/downloads.htm. I'm pretty sure it will hand 4.2,
which isn't that different from the 5.1 version the filter was
probably based on.

I down loaded "WordPerfect converter for Word" but the results were the same
when I tried to open the file in Word 2003. Is there a trick to this? All the
Read Me said was that it added the file to the registery.

Hi Stu,

What were the results? Were you able to open the file successfully?

You mentioned that you wanted to retain the formatting, but WordPerfect v4.2 didn't use Truetype fonts, unless you were running an
Add-in for that, so some things would be changed from the substitution of the non-truetype fonts by Windows for Word to use.

To see if Word is recognizing the file as WordPerfect v4.2 document turn on 'Confirm conversions at open' in Tools=>Options=>General
The converter for WordPerfect v4 files was a separate one,
Wpft432.cnv.

Do you have a copy of WPTFT432.CNV? If you can mail it to me I will add it
to those available from my web site.
