And what virus did you have that caused you to take the draconin action of wiping the PC
without having a complete restoration backup plan ?

You should still be able to activate it, as long as you have your own key
code, AND his CD is the exact same version as what you have installed.
Otherwise, forget it.
You'll have to find your CD too, because you'll never be able to get your
updates etc., straight without it.

Your best bet here would be to contact MS Support and see about getting a
new CD if you can't find yours. Have your key code handy; the'll want it.
Actually, they will require it. It proves you actually paid for the
software, plus they'll check it against the list of stolen/pirated software,
and when that's done, you'll be all set.

More description and details would have gotten you a better answer; you left
a lot of things to guess about.

1. You were not running a reputable anti-virus app.

2. You failed to keep track of your installation disc and activation
number.

3. You failed to maintain a recent backup of your system.

Who do you think caused your problems?

Unless your friend has the same type of disc as your installation disc, your
activation number will not work.

Of course, if you lose your activation number, it will not work with *any*
disc.

If you do not act responsibly and run a reputable anti-virus app and keep it
updated, you shouldn't be using a computer anyway.
