I found all of wordpad's files that disappeared! I did it with search
companion because it was the only way that worked. I tried to install them
with windows installation CD, but they won't install.

How do I install them?

And, in what order?

And, where? Thank you,

Hi Sue,

You don't really install wordpad or notepad, you just put your exe files
in the folders where they belong. By that I mean just drag and drop them
from where you have them to where they need to be.

As someone wrote in your earlier thread, stick in one thread and they'll
come back to help you again. If you post in new places they won't be
able to find you.

I just wanted to thank you for the help.

Some of the files got messed up pretty bad someway,

and I'm finding out a very safe,

and affordable way to straighten them out now.

The window's installation CD is what helped a lot.

That's the last time I'll believe an article like that on the internet again.

Hi again Sue,

...........That's the last time I'll believe an article like that on the
internet again.

I've found that what others are doing doesn't mean it's right for me. I
still use a hell of a lot of old software, unupdated Windoze, and feel
real comfortable when it continues to all work well. Leaving things the
way the are is more often than not a good plan.

Hi again,

Did you get your Wordpad and Notepad working again?

If you need clean copies of any Windoze files let me know and I'll put
them up somewhere for you to download.

Hi,

Notepad is working, but I couldn't get wordpad to work.

I really tried but there is something wrong with the wordpad files,
and there's a lot.

Decided to do a clean reinstall windows XP home edition.
Did it before.

Do you know the best method to use, so that EVERYTHING
is uninstalled-- before reinstalling?

Thank you for help, very appreciated.

Hi again Sue,

I would not call a clean install uninstalling anyything as it really
deletes and formats the drive to a like new condition.

The plan would be to boot from your Windoze CD and follow the prompts.

Normally you would watch your screen real close when it's still black
during boot and when you see "boot from CD" you hit any key right then.

If that option isn't happening for you, you'll need to enter your bios
setup, also done early in the black sceen time frame, and set your CD as
the first boot drive, or second right after your floppy.

Hi again Jim Self,

HAD TO do a clean reinstall.
What happened to wordpad files messed whole- computer up.

They say can do clean reinstall as many times as you want,
but I never believed it's good. What do you think ??

One question please: The CD-drive (hard drive, D)
on this computer says that's full, and is no room left on it.

Is that normal?

Couple years ago, had clean re-install at a computer shop
and they put all on one partition. And, is now.

Thank you- again,

Sue

Hi again Sue,

It's kind of a chore, but worth the effort sometimes. It's about the
only way you have of really cleaning things out for sure, at least for a
minute or two.

......One question please: The CD-drive (hard drive, D)

I'm not really sure where you're getting that comment from. If it's not
a writeable disk I wouldn't worry about it though. You having problems
with it? Some things it's just easier to live with than try to fix.

........had clean re-install at a computer shop and they put all on one
partition. And, is now.

That's not too bad either. I keep my daughters computer that way, easier
on her to find things. Mine here at home I use three partitions, Windoze
on C, My crap on D and the programs I install on E. My CD drive is F.

I also have a caddy for a second hard drive that turns on and off with a
key. I use it to grab a clone of my hard drive every weekend so I have a
backup that's never older than a week.

.......And, it says, "WARNING: F parameter not specified"
It's all NTFS.

I don't have a clue what that means. I still run with fat32. I like to
move my drives around to other computers that may or may not be able to
read NTFS disks. You might be better off to start a new post here and
see if someone can be of help in where you are now and what's happening
lately. I've found most folks don't bother looking back into these
threads for very long.

If you want, you can easily get my email from either of my websites and
contact me more directly.

Dear Jim Self,

Didn't know I had to be an expert to own a computer.
Getting a complete computer book.

Don't understand why drive D, hard disk, CD-R,
shows it's totally full, with no free space.

Read a hard disk- can get too full.

Somebody else copies unneeded stuff on Drive D, onto CDs.

This Dell doesn't say it does.

Thank you if could use your e-mail,
next time will, and give you mine then.

Don't want to bug you too much.
Your help's been- great, thank you.

Sue,>

Hi again Sue,

........Somebody else copies unneeded stuff on Drive D, onto CDs.
........Read a hard disk- can get too full.

What software are you using to play around with your CD? I don't
actually use XP, I'm running Win2000, but they're so closely related
most things seem to work the same in both. W2000 doesn't have a built in
CD writer though.

When you look at a CD in your file explorer is it showing anywhere near
600+ mb of info on it?

........Didn't know I had to be an expert to own a computer.

Back when I first started playing computer I thought it was the same
way. It made no sense that I had to fool around with files and things
just to save or install my own stuff. Even now I'm finding that I can
learn one thing and discover two more I know nothing about.

........Thank you if could use your e-mail, next time will, and give you
mine then.

That'll work for me, as long as you're not a stalker anyway. I play
computer for a while twice a day, so it's more likely to reach me there
rather than going through the M$ newsgroup.
