I.E.7 Help Please

I am running windows vista, and since a week ago, when I try and open
Internet Explorer it get the message "Microsoft Windows"
Internet explorer has stopped working.
A problem caused the program to stop working correctly. Windows will close
the program and notify you if a solution is available.
I have been waiting for over a week now for a solution, Microsoft has not
contacted me.
Tried downloading Firefox that will not work either. Any advice on what I
should do. I haven't loaded any programs recently.
