I installed Messenger Live and now have 2 versions when I login and don't
want all this. I tried to uninstall the first one and it directed me to
Add/remove programs - but I cannot see the first one in there!
How do I get rid of the first one? is there a key name in add/remove programs?

PLEASE NO SPAM - anytime i have asked a question here - i have been spammed
to high hell after - all microsoft stuff which I do not want or ever use -
thanks!

It sounds like you have "Windows Messenger" and "Windows Live Messenger",
two separate programs running at the same time. You really do NOT want to
uninstall Windows Messenger, you just want to prevent it from starting when
Windows starts and prevent it from running in the background. To do this
open Windows Messenger / Tools / Options / Preferences. Uncheck the
following, "Run Windows Messenger when Windows starts" and "Allow Windows
Messenger to run in the background". Click OK. Restart your system. Now
only Windows Live Messenger should start at start-up.

Windows messenger is closley tied into the operating system, so even, run
windows messenger when windows starts, wont stop it running, as it pop's it
head up when u open up i.e outlook or outlook express, internet explorer, it's
a pain when your running live messenger and windows messenger pop's up when
you open outlook xp or IE :-( there is a way to remove windows messenger for
good, cant give insturctions for that ere, just have to do a search. as a lot
of people dont like 2 messengers on there system, when live messenger is much
better to use IMHO
