that the speakers are like apart of the computer an ive never had to install
them before using a cd or anythin, theyve always just worked, and now all of
a sudden i hav no audio device even tho my computer is still attached to the
speaker! does anyone hav any idea whats going on and how i can get my sound
up and running again!?!?!?! please help

You're likely missing the driver. Use Control Panel (Classic View) &
open the Sounds applet, Click the Audio (TAB). If no default device
is defined, then the drivers aren't loaded.
If your sound is a add-in PCI card, you'll need to determine the vendor
& model and download the driver package. If the sound is from a MB
chipset, then your computer's Motherboard vendor will provide drivers.
You can check for the presence of the hardware in Device Manager.
The sound card category or in some cases it may appear in the "Other"
category, meaning the device is detected, but XP doesn't know which
drivers to install from it's unique ID string.

Usually just running the Setup.Exe from the Audio driver package
and a reboot will fix it. If not, then just Right Click each device in
the "Others" category and choose Uninstall. Then run Setup.Exe
& reboot. Next time around XP will detect/enumerate the devices
but should know the appropriate drivers to install for the sound
card.
