I don´t receive sp1 in windows update

Hallo, I have a laptop hp compaq 6720s with windows vista home premium (32
bits) preinstalled. The graphics adpater´s driver, mobile intel 965 express
chipset family, has the version number 7.14.10.1329, what is one with
compatibility problems with sp1. For this reason, i suppose sp1 is not shown
in windows update for me. My question is, when are we going to have an
updated graphics driver vista sp1 compatible?, really i don´t know who to
ask this question: hp, intel, microsoft... (all of them i think have the
reponsibility).
Any comment or suggestion about this item will be very welcome.
Regards, clara

Thanks for answering. I went to the hp page and downloaded the driver you
indicate, i install as administrator the software package 36881.exe,
apparently everything is ok, the software installs correctly, but
compatibility agent in vista says: this program could not be installed
properly, and it gives to you two alternatives, i select this program was
installed correctly but the driver doesn´t install. ¿Any idea?.
Thanks in advance, regards.

Hello, I have done it too. I went to the intel site for 965 express chipset
vista operating system 32 bits. I downloaded the version number 7.14.10.1472
(which is the correspondisng to my chipset), but when i try to install, the
system says that this driver does not correspond to my model and the driver
will not be updated. I suppose this is because my vista is oem and perhaps
hp has altered something in the driver. I don´t Know. It seems that i will
have to wait for hp or microsoft to update these graphic drivers, if they do
that i am not very sure.
Anyway, thankyou very much for answering.
Regards, Clara.

I sent another post after this one. The hp site has a listing of all
drivers for your model laptop. Try the graphics driver package from there.
Might want to do a system restore prior to installing to revert your system
to a prior date (before the subsequent two failed updates).

It is true, i hadn´t seen the hp link. Well, unless i know it sounds
incredible, the drivers in the hp page for my laptop model and my OS are not
compatible with my vista operating system. I have tried some of them as the
quick launch buttons, tha graphic driver, the soundmax integrated speaker,
the enhanced recovery manager tool, and when i try to install them the
compatibility agent for vista says that the programme could not be installed
properly, it gives to you two alternatives (reinstall with recommended
configuration or assuming the programm has been installed correctly), any
case an error report is sent to microsoft, but i don´t find solutions for
them. So I restored to a previous point with my ols drivers ( not so old,
the computer was bought in december). Also i have an hp tool names health
check which looks for recent software and updates and it says that i have
the updated drivers for mu laptop. The thing is that i cannot see the sp1 in
windows update .
I have asked for help to hp but I cannot get an answer from them
(apparently they don´t understand my problem, but I think they don´t have
the updated and compatible drivers with sp1).
Any idea is wellcome.
Thanks for answering, regards.

Wow, you do have a strange situation. Did you contact someone on an hp
forum or hp support? Perhaps either of those might provide some
information. Your laptop is still under warranty right? Perhaps they can
walk you through downloading the correct driver for your graphics
controller.

I wish I could provide more help.

Perhaps you could ask this person how he went about installing the graphics
driver for his 6720. Perhaps you'll have some success. Seems he was trying
to update to SP1 as well and had a few compatibility issues as well.

Thankyou, i have tried the link with the graphics driver 7.14.10.1437 in
sp39044.exe and i have installed it with recommended configuration from
vista, at first it gave the advise "this program could not have installed
properly" from vista compatibility agent, i reinstalled with recommended
configuration, reboot and for now everything is ok. I tried in windows
update to look for actualizations but i don´t see the sp1 yet. I think that
i am going to download the full sp1 package from microsoft.
Any way, now i have an updated graphics driver without compatibility
problems with sp1.
Thanks a lot, regards,
Clara

Did you do a manual check for Windows Updates? I don't know for sure if SP1 is
being done through automatic updates yet.. but if it is, it would not update
until the appointed time (default 3 AM), so if it is going to be offered, it
should show up by doing a manual Window Update.

If you do download SP1, and if it fails, then I would think maybe whatever has
been preventing SP1 from being offered may be related to it failing as well.
Post if you do get it either via WU or download, and if it is successful...
thanks.. :)

Hello, at last, today after dowloading the updates corresponding to May
(three in total, one for windows defender, one for mail filter and one
against malicious software), i looked for more updates and the sp1 was
shown. So it is clear, i had an incompatible intel graphics driver
7.14.10.1329, when i updated to the version 7.14.10.1437, the day after, the
sp1 was ready for me.
I have downloaded it from windows update, the installation time has been 1
hour and 10 minutes, and everything has been successfull, except that i lost
the battery icon from the notification bar (i had blocked the task bar), and
i had to put it again in the bar unblocking the bar and checking in the
energy item.
So thank you very much to everybody who answer and gave ideas, with their
help i could fix my problem. Only one suggestion for hp ( i will write
them), they have to update their software and drivers download page for the
models and OS of computers they sell, now it is a mess with drivers not
updated or incompatible with vista OS.
Best regards, Clara
