I Can't Remove Device Manager Entries

J

Jethro

I am having trouble installing drivers for my Powerlook II scanner.
I have a persistent 'found new hardware wizard' window showing up
every time I boot up, and no matter what I do I can't get rid of it.

Anyway, I find I have 6 duplicative 'Imaging Devices' entries in WXP
PRO Device Manager, all of which say 'UMAX PL-II SCSI Scanner Device'
I want to remove all of them to try to start all over. However, using
'uninstall' produces the message 'Failed to uninstall the device. The
device may be required to boot up the computer'.

How can I make the uninstall work?

Thanks

Jethro

Please try to contact the scanner vendor's tech support.
There are some relevant MS KB articles they should know.
Doing any registry or other system hacks can only
make the situation worse.

Good luck,
