I can't log on

My Windows XP Professional computer was running slow, so I decided to close
everything down and reboot.

Everything seemed pretty normal outside of how slow it was running before
the reboot.

Now I cannot log into Window at all. I have tried every mode, both with the
ethernet cable pluggin in and not plugged in. I cannot get in.

In the Safe Mode I get the following message:

"The system could not log you on. Make sure your user name and domain are
correct, then type your password again. Letters in passwords must be typed
using the correct case."

In all other modes, I can get as far as the Loading Personal Settings...
(about half the time - otherwise it freezes right after typing my user name
and password) window before it locks up.

I have no problem logging in from other workstations on the network, and no
one else can log into my computer.

Nothing has been installed recently and there have been no other indications
that there is a problem.

HELP!!!!!

HELP!!!!!

Try logging on as "Administrator", then create a new user and log
on as this new user.

Do you mean that it rejects the password for Administrator?
Did you actually know what it was? Have you tried your
secondary admin account? If you don't have one then it's
high time to create one. I assume that you have at least two
sets of keys for your car, for a very good reason. The same
applies to Windows.

Boot the machine with this boot disk to reset the administrator's
password:

Actually I did get logged in as administrator. It just took so long (30+
minutes) that it appeared to not accept the password.

I discovered that winlogon.exe is using 98-99% CPU at all times, making the
computer virtually unusable.

How do I remedy this?
