I can't get Windows to start in Safe Mode or any other

I tried to restart my computer after downloading an update
for McAfee Virus software.
When I did I got a message that read:
"We apologize for the inconvenience, but Windows did not
start successfully. A recent hardware or software chage
might have caused this. blah blah blah"
And then it gives me the following options to start it:

Safe Mode
Safe Mode with Networking
Safe Mode with Command Prompt
Last Known Good Configuration
or Start Windows Normally

I have tried them all and it tries to start but then goes
back to this same message.
Any ideas?

somehow critical systyem files became corrupt during the

McAfee update.Use your WinXP cd and do a repair install.
That will solve your problem.
