| thanks but I did delete Xoftspy and I deleted all versions of java cept for
| version 5... I loaded ad aware and it found many things and took care of
| them.... the handicapped icon is gone but the yellow one is still blinking
| and I still have pop ups. I rebooted and everything... cleaned out my
| cache.. etc.... I'm sorry but the other things you mentioned are too
| complicated for me to follow... but thanks for trying... (what is safe mode)?

Get used to "complicated" solutions. Prevention is better than cure and to use a computer
their are responsibilities that one must adhere to. One is opracticing Safe Hex practices
to PREVENT getting infected.

http://www.claymania.com/safe-hex.html

Safe Mode is a mode of operation that loads a limited version of the OS. In such a mode,
some malware won't load and thus anti malware utilities have a greater efficacy in their
removal.

For those users having trouble getting into Safe Mode, there is the free BootSafe
application:
http://www.superadblocker.com/bootsafe.html

If you can't handle the steps required for malware removal then take the PC to a reputable
and certified service center.

Mr Lipman, complicated I can handle, but some people have such a talent for
breaking it down, step by step for those of us who are not techies. You are
not one of those people.

To use an overused phrase, "Duh!" I know I will have to take it in to have
it repaired if I dont find the solutions here. But as I am not rich, I will
keep trying to find a solution on line.

By the way, what is safe Hex practices??? Please dont answer that. I only
ask it to prove again how things are said that others cannot understand.

I know how to reboot in safe mode now...

thanks....

I think you are very close to getting things into reasonable shape.
Run this cleaner, click > Select All & then > Empty Selected.
ATF Cleaner

You will have to redo your online passwords.

To understand & make sure we are on the same wave lenth, send a
screenshot of your problem here >
ImageShack

ImageShack's mission is to provide an easy-to-use image hosting service
for everyone.

Screen Capture ( make sure you select jpeg, anything else is a bigger
size )
If you are in any windows based program, just hit the Print Screen key
on your keyboard ( or Ctrl + V ) and you have a full screenshot.
If you hold down the 'Alt' key with the Print Screen key, you will
capture only the window that is on your screen, not the whole desk top.
This sends it to Clipboard, now you can Paste it into Paint ( go to
Edit ) or any other Windows based graphics program.
Save as...
Save as type, select JPEG etc.
Image Resizer

http://download.microsoft.com/download/whistler/Install/2/WXP/EN-US/ImageResizerPowertoySetup.exe
This PowerToy enables you to resize one or many image files with a
right-click.
Here is how to get it smaller, right click on the file & select >
Resize Pictures, I use 800 x 600 or 640 x 480. Makes it a lot easier to
email.
If you need to crop it, put it in any Edit program and crop.

You can email the screenshot to me, if you want to.

manually.do you still have this problem because this post is 10 days
old.would be glad to help.

Hi Faisal,
Will you share your method with the rest of us please? I had the same
symptoms as Vangie and solved them by following the steps suggested by David
H. Lipman on May 11/06. All symptoms disappeared fairly early except the
homepage hijacker, which was finally eliminated by Multi_AV.exe.
