i have one to system, advance tab, performance, advance tab. it says my total
paging file size for all drives is 0 mb. i hit change, custom size and set
it for drive c: to be from 2000 to 4000 mb, hit set and ok. it tells me
for changes to take effect i must restart my computer. i do so but when my
computer is starting back up it gives me an error message saying that i have
no paging file or that it is too small and when i go back to the place to
change it it still says that my total paging file size for all drives is 0
although in the custom size field it still has the setting i put in
previously.

Thats a little on the large side.........try System Managed first and see if
it takes
In my 1gb Ram computer with a 120GB HD I have it set to a steady 768mb.
What makes you think you need that much??

i've tried larger and smaller and system managed. i just left it on the
large side because the message said it was too small. i realize that is more
than i need. it just doesn't make sense that my computer won't accept a
change, any change.

Are you forgetting to click on the "Apply" button after making a change?

brad,
what permissions do you have on the root of the drive? system account must
have full control.
(see this KB:
check PagingFiles value in
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager\Memory
Management
value must be of REG_MULTI_SZ type and for what you want to set it to, it
should be c:\pagefile.sys 2000 4000
If the value is corrupt, you may want to try deleting it first, then
recreate by using paging file tab in system (don't forget to click on set)
