I can't find my home page, though I know it exists!

I have been handed a project to improve a website. I ftp'ed the
website to my local computer, and then I looked for "index.htm". I
found it, but it does not match the contents of the page shown as the
home page.
There are a lot of subdirectories to the project, so I then did the
following:
I looked for a (almost) unique word in the home page that I saw on the
browser, and then I did a search for it through all the pages I had
ftp'ed. About 3 pages had it, but neither were the home page. They
just didn't match the contents.
This is a mystery that I cannot figure out.
Any help is appreciated.

If you searched for index.htm and didn't find it on your computer, it's not
there.
