I cannot uninstall Cat drivers

For the last two CAT upgrades, I have tried to uninstall the ATI control
panel and CAT drivers. After uninstall, on reboot, the system (XPPro)
re-discovers the drivers and I am back to square one. The ATI drivers show
up again in the Control Panel|Add Remove software list and the process
continues ad-infinitum..

I tried to "roll back" the drivers but that says that there are no previous
drivers to roll back to.

I could use the Cat-uninstaller from ATI but would rather not. That gets
rid of Guide Plus and DVD decoder etc.

All I want to do is to switch to MS's VGA drivers. How do I do that?

Thanks.

Aloke
when your PC reboots after removing the ATI software, click cancel when it
asks you if you want to install the drivers. This will take you to the
desktop using the default Microsoft drivers, then run the ATI update program
for the new CAT drivers.

But it doesn't ask me before looking for drivers and "finding" the ATI
drivers.

After reboot, it finds VGA card as the drivers. So far so good. Then in 30
seconds or so, it pops up the "new hardware found" bubbles near the task bar
and in a few more seconds, I'm back with the ATI drivers.

I wonder if there is a setting somewhere in XPPro that will prevent
discovery of plug-and-play hardware without user approval ...

Before rebooting look in c:\ATI\SUPPORT\ and the delete the folder for
the cat drivers. This should force XP to install the standard VGA
drivers.

I see the same thing as Aloke when upgrading ATI Driver/Panel levels
with XP/Pro OpSys. Prior to 4.1, I simply did an uninstall from Control
Panel. Everything worked just fine regardless of whether XP discovered and
installed new software, even though I had not installed code yet.
With upgrading to 4.2 I decided to use the Cat Uninstaller code rather
then doing from CP. Sure enough when I rebooted XP asked to install driver
and I simply replied no and then went on to install the 4.2's.
I decided to do the same procedure for the just released 4.3's. Well,
it reacted just as the 4.1's or earlier and just went ahead and discovered
and installed with whatever... Everything is fine regardless. My games
etc. work so I'm not overly concerned.
I suspect XP has a signed set of drivers for ATI models such as my
9700Pro. Last fall when the 3.9+ drivers came out in response to problems
with Call of Duty corruption, I loaded those as my son and myself play this.
Well when visiting the MS site for updates I noticed that under suggested
updates it recommended I download video drivers. I didn't. Another visit
after the ATI 3.10's came out, and sure enough no suggestion to download
video drivers.
