I cannot execute the game Emipre Earth II

I get the following message when i try to execute the game Empire Earth II:

EE2.exe - Entry Point Not Found
The procedure entry point Direct3DCreat8 could not be located in the dynamic
link library d3d8.dll.

I did a search, on my computer, for d3d8.dll and came up with 4 different
locations for the .dll, which are as follows:
C:\Windows\SYSTEM32\ 1,216KB 12/12/2002
C:\Windows\$NtServicePackUninstall$ 1,130KB 12/12/2002
C:\Windows\RegisteredPackages\{44BBA855-CC51-11CF-AAFA-00AA00B6015C}
1,130KB 12/12/2002
C:\Windows\ServicePackFiles\ 1,152kb 8/4/2004

So here we have 3 different d3d8.dll's in 4 different locations and one of
them is causing my problem in that the procedure entry point Direct3DCreated8
could not be located. My guess is that one of the d3d8.dlls' does not have
the entry point for Direct3DCreate8, which probably comes from the game.

Can someone tell me which of these d3d8.dlls' is the correct one to use and
which one of Windows directories does it belong in. At least that's what I
think might be the problem.

At the suggestion of the Tech rep for Empire Earth, I removed the program
and went through a bunch hoops and then reloaded it and the problem still was
still there.

I am using WindowsXP Home Edition. It is loaded on C: drive and my game
Empire Earth is also located on C: drive. The Tech Rep for Empire Earth says
that my video card should work with the program as I had sent a bunch my
computer data to them.

I will appreciate any help I can get.

Respectfully,

You appear to be using an older version of DirectX
Current version of d3d8.dll is dated 8/4/2004
Click Start -- Run
type dxdiag and press Enter

Look at the notes on the DirectX files tabs, is there any errors?
On the Display tab also check the notes and run the tests.
Did they work?

You could try copying the newer version into c:\windows\system32

Download the latest version, DirectX 9.0c on this page

Hi,

The one in use is the one under \windows\system32, the others are
immaterial. Chances are, the one in use is corrupt - try running sfc
/scannow from a start/run box.

Thanks for your assistance. I followed your suggestions. When replaced teh
..ddl file with the latest version I had the EE II program loaded and was
executable.
