I can not print certain word documents

O

Owen Iverson

I am using word 97 and just switched my HP 2200dn printer
from local to network. I can print everything but a few
word doc's from it. For some documents, I have to go
press the "go" button to get my document. I have verified
that all settings and drivers are correct with an HP tech
and he seemed to think that its document related. (which
makes sense if i can print fine from other applications
and even SOME docs from word).

The docs that seem to be giving me trouble are our older
templates. I thought maybe it was the shapes that i am
using in our logo. I've tried copying the text from the
templates into a new document (with no header or shape
files) but that doesnt work. Is there any known issue
with printing embedded "MS drawings" (insert>picture>new
drawing)

Anyway, has anyone heard of any printing issues that might
exist on a document level?

and hats off to susan b for being so helpful in alot of
these newsgroups :) thanks many times over!

Hi Owen

Assuming the problem is within certain documents, then I would check all the settings at Tools > Options > Print, especially the
Default Tray. Try setting it to "Use printer settings", and then try controlling the printer through the File > Print > Properties
dialogs.

My guess, and it's only a guess, is that the problem documents are set to print from a manual feed paper tray, and the printer is
set to wait for the "Go" button when using the manual feed tray.

If this turns out to be the problem, open each of the problem templates. To open a template (rather than creating a new document
from the template), choose File > Open and navigate to the Templates directory. Or, in Windows Explorer, right-click the template
name and choose Open. Make the change of paper tray in the template. Word doesn't see this as a change, so press spacebar and then
backspace to trick Word into thinking you made a change. Then save. That will solve the problem for any *new* documents created from
this template.

Hope this helps.
