I can connect to Internet through LAN but PC is not accessable

Hi,

I have a problem. I have a PC connected to our Domain
which can access the Internet through our LAN with no
problems, but other PC's cannot see it and it cannot see
other PC's. When running "ipconfig /all" it shows that
NetBIOS over tcpip is disabled but when I check in
Network Connections under WINS it shows that it is
enabled. I cannot change domains to rejoin again because
it gives me a DNS error and I cannot re-install TCP/IP
because it says it is being used and refuses to
uninstall. This PC was working fine until I tried to
apply the Internet Explorer Service Pack 6, which caused
the pc to crash, and after I got it up and running again
it started giving this problem. The PC is running Windows
2000 Pro and formatting is not an option. Any help would
greatly be appreciated.

Thanks in advance,

Leon

Formatting is ALWAYS an option. Ever hear of backups? But in the
meantime, have you tried disabling the network connection before
removing/reinstalling TCP/IP? I would say that the inability to unjoin the
domain due to a DNS error is a clue that something is very wrong. It
suggests that although the DNS is working from the internet, it is not
communicating correctly with the domain. What IS the DNS error? Have you
tried deleting the machine account from Active Directory and then rejoining
it? Maybe even rename the computer? As for IE6, have you tried
repairing/reinstalling it? You will likely continue to have various issues
with that computer unless you know IE is installed correctly.
