Can access LAN but not Internet.

The problem is with a brand new labtop PC. It can connect to local
network but for some reason cannot to the Internet.

The Network and Sharing Center indicates the connection is going through
the LAN and to the Internet. The Network map also indicates the same.
But IE can not gets to anywhere in the Internet. There are three other
PCs in the same LAN and they do not have this problem.
What could be wrong?

Yes, ping to any public IP goes through.

It appears that the second round(and is the last round) of Windows
Updates caused this problem. I do not know which one but the second
round included drivers of wired and wireless network adapters. I
checked to see if they can be rolled back but it is grayed so not
possible. But the problem symptom is the same whether it is wired
connection or wireless connection, so I would think chances that both
adapters are affected by the updates are not so high. Culprit could be
one of those updates other than the drivers. I can uninstall all updates
but any better idea?

BTW: Vista Internet Access is dead link.

I have returned the PC to the retailer because the 15 days was running
out by yesterday. I uninstalled all updates except security updates but
the problem was not cured. The vendor's tech support said call Microsoft
but there was no point of doing that because I know MS would point to
the vendor since the OS is OEM version. So, I gave up. It appears that
your suggestion may solve the problem but then I have to live with a
security risk because the culprit update which needs be uninstalled must
be one of those security updates.
Thanks any way for trying to help me. But I learned that MS security
update may cause this kind of problem.
