First of all, install your Vista retail on the new PC... Then transfer your
settings to the pc using Windows Easy Transfer. Get rid of the old Vista,
and activate it on your new pc (via phone if necessary). If by any chance
the new PC came with XP retail rather than OEM, you can install it on your
old PC...

Hope this helps!

you want to transfer what? your settings?

You will have to use that retail Vista to UPGRADE or do a CLEAN INSTALL
on that Alienware machine, but first backup all your files from the old
one...

Have in mind that you can use that retail liscence on only one machine
at a time..this means you will have to remove it from your other PC if
you want to use it on the alienware one.

and would it be easier just to put my c: drive in new computer would that work

If your Windows is installed on C: then I think the installed Windows won't
do well with such a radical hardware change, but who knows... You should try
it, it could just work... (Although I DO RECOMMEND A BACKUP FIRST!!!)

About the cable, Microsoft mentions using Windows Easy Transfer with "either
an Easy Transfer Cable or a network". Don't ask me what the first one is...
I think you do need a network first... Windows Easy Transfer doesn't delete
any files from the old PC, so I think there's no need for Backup here, if
you decide to use this option...

Good Luck, and please post back if you succeed with the first option, or if
you have any more questions!

if i just put c: drive in the alienware one and make it the primary bootable what do you think will be the worst that could happen
i thought at worst it would deactivate then i ring and explain whats going
on and get it re activated or
if i do a clean install on new machine and dont activate it
then transfer files across then delete from old system and reactivate it on
new system(probably by phone) would that work
