I am unable to capture VHS tapes

J

jvt007

When connected to the VCR to capture tapes on hard disc via "kaiserbaas video
to dvd maker" this error message is displayed
"The video devise cannot be used at this time because there has been an
error when starting the divice". Can anyone help?

MM is designed to work with digital video via firewire. Use the app that
came with the product and hope it does work with W2000 if that is what you
are using.
If it captures as an mpeg file, you'll then need to convert this to a wmv
before using in MM

WIN2K *IS* what he's trying to use, assuming his post to this forum was made
from the same machine.

"Kaiserbaas Video to DVD Maker" (which is what the OP was referring to) is
*not* going to capture *anything* at all on a WIN2K OS.

It won't work. And it probably never will given that the maker is not about
to develop drivers and what-not in support of an antiquated OS like WIN2K.

Period.

The OP either has to hook it up to an XP, Vista, or MAC OSX machine ... OR,
return it to the vendor.

Simple as that.

Whoa! Dude!! Graham knows what he is doing.

Disrespecting your fellow volunteers is not acceptable
behavior in this newsgroup.

FYI...All messages posted from the web interface
will include the following info in the header:

"X-Newsreader: Microsoft CDO for Windows 2000"

That has *nothing* to do with the machine the
poster is using.

Not from the looks of it.

Umm. NO. They don't. Show me where my headers indicate that. Here are the
complete headers from the post I made in reply to Graham. Now tell me where
you see what you claim.

It has EVERYTHING to do with it if you're not posting through some dopey
web-interface that steals Usenet content as if it's their own.

You may know a lot about WMM, but you know little about the Internet and
OS's.

Microsoft CDO for Windows 2000 is not listed
in your headers because you did not post from
the web interface. You are using Outlook Express.

FWIW...here is a link to the web interface.

I am operating "windows XP" and sp 1,2 and 3 are installed. I have other
programs like "magix" and "cyberlink" and "winfast". Do you have any other
suggestions?

If your main goal is to make DVD copies
of your VHS home movies...you don't need
a computer. A DVD Recorder may be worth
a look.

The flaw in your arguement Walter is in your own reply, why don't you try
reading what you write and see if you can work it out.

Dear OP, please don't let this stop you from requesting further assistance,
just ask your questions, we all start somewhere, with varying amounts of
knowledge and all we try to do here is help you along the way.

Assuming this is your product
http://www.kaiserbaas.com/KBA03001_video_to_dvd_maker.html

Then it says
Use the supplied CyberLink software to capture the video, edit, and output
to DVD. MAC or PC compatible. Mac users can use iMovie to edit and burn
their DVDs.

Without delving deeper I cannot easily see the format that it captures as,
but most do use mpeg2, so if you did want to edit this video in movie maker
you would need to convert it to a wmv video file before importing into MM.
This may help

I am downloading the vhs video via the equipment into my laptop,
filed and can be brought up ready to bring over by using Roxio
software. The problem which is probably more mine than the equipment
is knowing where on Roxio's instructions is the key re data from file
rather than the simple copy/burn procedure.
It must be simple but my computer skills are not as required.
thank you
