I am locked out by built-in adminstrator

On my Computer I am the only user and adminstrator.
However when I attempt to open the Registry I am denied
access. A msg. appears: "Registry editing has been
disabled by your adminstrator."
Upon checking Documents and Settings I find the following
entries, (which I am unable to use or delete).
Administrator and Administrator 2 Both of these are small
folders none of which I am able to delte.
My data is available under yet another file, namely "Hp
Authorized Custom". I am told there is a way to delete
the built-in administrator and regain control of my
registry?

Thank you, Doug Knox, it worked like a charm. Registry
opened. However Adminstrator and Administrator 2 are
still present. Does that matter?
Thanks again

The Administrator account is normal, and is part of XP. You need to log on
to that account to access the files there. I don't know about the
Administrator 2, unless that's an account you created to work around this
problem. If so, you can remove it.

Hi Doug, hope you don't mind if I jump in here. I have a similar
question. Recently I used my second admin account (Admin) to change my
first and most frequently used account (Me) from an Admin to a Power
User. Then I had second thoughts and changed it back to Admin. But now
I can't access the Internet Options dialog in IE from Me, it says that
the Administrator has disabled this feature. Any idea how to re-enable
this feature for the Me account? Thanks

Byron

Thanks for the reply Doug, and nice site. I'll use your script if I
must, but is this a bug in XP, or is there a way to correct the problem
in XP without having to edit the registry?

No, this is not a bug. This setting does not exist by default. Some
application, installed intentionally by you, or not, has put this
restriction in place. Probably to keep you from defeating it. This is
symptomatic of some virus/trojan programs and/or spyware.

Thanks again. I guess it's time to check the installed programs list
and break out Spybot.
