I am confused

Shelly

I have a yahoo mail account and have had it for years. Why do I need a
microsoft mail account? I don't know what info to put under server and
type. If I am on the internet and try to email from a site my yahoo mail is
not picking it up. What should I do?

Shelly, I understand your issue. You have a free Yahoo Mail account
that you access with a browser such as Internet Explorer.
When you click on a mail link on a web page, it hands the request
over to the operating system (Vista), which then looks up the
default email program and starts it up. Vista's default email program
is Windows Mail. The solution is to set your Yahoo webmail as the
default. That isn't easily done because it is not a program.
The following solutions have not been tested by me, but give
them a try:
http://www.pchell.com/support/yahoomail.shtml
and
