hyperthreading off - Windows hangs

I havea P4 3.8 with Windows XP. I want to disable hyperthreading to
see if my main CAD application will run faster w/o hyperthreading on.

When I disable HT in the BIOS and restart Windows hangs with a black
screen. No info and it just hangs forever. Have I not waited long
enough (several minutes) or is there something else I'm missing.
From what I understand disabling in BIOS is all that should be
required.

Thanks

The "All" depends on which HAL (Hardware Abstraction Layer) or
Computer driver is used. Another factor is which MB Chipset the PC
has. From your description it sounds like BIOS is not handing off the
OS loading or the boot disk isn't being detected. I'd double-check the
BIOS setup as it seems like you've changed other options related to
boot sequencing or drive detection.

It can be turned off with the boot.ini file. Insert a copy of
your boot info line and append /numproc=1. Rename
the title to something like "Single CPU Boot". Using the
boot menu you can then boot with HT on or off.
