hyperlinks

I am using Word 2000. The doc is very big. I am replacing some ftn with
hyperlinks, with the idea of that reducing the size of the doc. Then I
realized that when I put in a screen tip, that is very detailed that maybe I
am not reducing the size of the doc at all? Will replacing text with a
hyperlink & screen tip actually reduce the size of the doc?

Probably there is an amount of text that would not make any difference, eg 5
words. At about how many words would replacing text with a hyperlink reduce
the size of the doc?

If the screen tip of the hyperlink contains the same text that was in the
footnote, you're probably making the document file bigger, not smaller.
There's more information in a hyperlink than just what you see on the
screen, and that has to be stored in the file.

When you say "very big", what number are you looking at? I wouldn't consider
a document file to be very big until you get into the range of 15 to 20
megabytes, not including any embedded graphics.

Speaking of graphics, if you do have them saved in the file, you can do a
lot more to reduce the file size by linking them instead.

Jay,

Thanks for the info ... The file is about 14 mgs & does not have any
graphics. It has 8046 end notes & a lot of style changes in the text.
